What Can Be Done If My Excessive Skin Goes Beyond My Elbow?
Added on 26th March 2021
In terms of the limits of arm lifting, I always feel that extending scars past the joint or over a joint surface is not the best thing for patients because this can cause a functional problem. Something that may be aesthetically a problem, you don’t want to convert into a functional problem.
So, scars that could form contractures around the elbow, by the scar being longer than the elbow, are best avoided. Obviously in certain circumstances, this may be a risk that patients may wish to take, but it’s probably not in their best interests and there may be alternatives that need to be discussed at a consultation.
