Forehead Lift
A forehead lift can tighten the soft tissues in the forehead to reverse the signs of ageing.
What Is A Forehead Lift?
As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity and firmness, making you look older than you feel. A forehead lift aims to restore a more youthful contour to the forehead by repositioning the eyebrows. It’s often combined with upper eyelid surgery for optimal results.

Preparing For Surgery
Before you undergo any operation, you’ll be invited into the clinic for a consultation. Here, we’ll discuss your surgery expectations and the best course of treatment. If you decide to go ahead with the procedure, it’s advised that you do the following 6 weeks before surgery:
- Stop smoking
- Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs
- Don’t take any aspirin
After surgery, you will need to be collected from the hospital. You should also arrange time off from work during your recovery, this may be two to three weeks.
What Happens During The Procedure?
This surgery lasts between 1 to 2 hours and is usually performed under general anaesthetic. The type of forehead augmentation you undergo will depend on your facial features, face shape, and desired results.
To begin with, sections of your hair will need to held back from the area and potentially trimmed if it’s overlapping the line of incision. Then, the surgeon will cut at ear level and continue across the top of the forehead, following the hairline. If you’re balding or your hairline is receding, the surgeon may make the incision further into the scalp to prevent a visible scar. Excess skin is then removed and the eyebrows repositioned to give a lifted, more youthful look. The area is then closed with stitches or staples.
Aftercare For Forehead Augmentation
You’ll be wrapped in bandages after the surgery to try and reduce bruising and swelling. Pain is typically not a significant issue for forehead augmentation, but you may be prescribed painkillers for discomfort. It’s vital that you follow all instructions provided by the surgeon, including:
- Using ice cold packs around the eyes
- Avoid strenuous physical activity
- Avoid driving for the first few days
- Keep the wounds as dry as possible
- Sleep with your back and head elevated for 5-7 days
- Avoid heavy lifting
A week after surgery you will be seen in the dressings clinic to remove the bandages and check you’re recovering well. Your stitches or staples will also be removed at this stage if they weren’t dissolvable. During your first few weeks of recovery once the bandages are removed, it’s important to avoid touching your hair and face.
Risks And Complications
Every cosmetic surgery procedure carries with it its own risks and complications. Some of the potential complications of all forehead lifts are:
- Infection and bleeding
- Reaction to the anesthetic
- Damage to underlying structures
- Hematoma
- Unsatisfactory results
All potential outcomes will be discussed in great detail with your experienced UK Aesthetic surgeon during your consultation. They’ll also be able to advise on what action will be taken should one of the uncommon complications occur.
