Face Lift

A face lift is an operation to lift the loose skin on your face, making it appear tighter and more youthful. There can be many options for facelift available.

What Is Face Lift Surgery?

Many patients choose to undergo face lift surgery as a result of the ageing process. Over time, skin on the face can lose elasticity and become saggy, giving you a more aged appearance. This can also occur as a result of sudden weight loss at any age.

What Happens During The Procedure?

The surgery takes 2 to 3 hours, and is often performed under general anaesthetic. In the facelift Manchester patients commonly choose, usually the surgeon will make incisions above the hairline at the temples. These incisions are then extended down towards the front of the ear, underneath the earlobe and behind the ear into the scalp. Excess facial skin is then removed, and the remaining skin pulled upwards and re-positioned. In some cases, excess fat is also removed with liposuction.

Patients will need to be collected by someone after surgery. Time off from work should also be arranged to help the recovery process, generally this is about two to four weeks.

Aftercare For Face Lift Surgery

Your face will be wrapped in bandages following the surgery, this will help reduce swelling and bruising. It’s likely you’ll be experiencing pain and discomfort, for which you can be prescribed painkillers. Other recommendations during recovery include:

  • Avoid any strenuous physical activity
  • Avoid driving for the first few days
  • Keep the wound and bandages dry
  • Ensure your head is upright at all times

You’ll need to keep the bandages in place for a day or two. The following week you’ll be checked over in the dressings clinic. During this time it’s important to try and avoid touching your face and hair.

Results

Final results will take some months to appear, and after about 6 months the full effect of the face lift surgery choose should be apparent. This will also be dependant on your facelift recovery period. The skin will feel tighter and smoother, giving you a more youthful appearance.

Face Lift Scars

Initially, scars will appear red. However, these will fade after several weeks into a thin white line. Scars will be where the incisions were made – around the hairline and down towards the back of the ear.

Risks And Complications

No matter what surgery you have, each procedure comes with its own risks and potential complications. In the facelift Manchester patients typically opt for, uncommon complications can be infection, seroma formation, skin loss and haematoma. However, all outcomes will be discussed in detail with your UK Aesthetic surgeon during the consultation. They will also be able to answer any queries you may have.

FAQs

Who Can Get Face Lift Surgery?

The majority of people who have face lift surgery are between the ages of 40-70, though many also seek to get a face lift after dramatic weight loss leaves them with sagging skin.

Who Is It Not Suitable For?

Anyone who has been pressured to have surgery by others. Additionally, those seeking to alter the creases around the lips won’t benefit from a face lift.

How Long Will Face Lift Scars Take To Heal?

Scars will be red at first, and it can take several weeks them to heal. They will eventually fade into a thin white line.

How Much Does A Face Lift Cost?

This greatly depends on the face lift the patient requires. After your consultation, the surgeon will provide you with a quote that includes the surgeon, hospital and anaesthetic fees.

How Long Will A Face Lift Last?

A mini facelift can last two to five years, whereas full facelifts can last up to 15 years depending how invasive the surgery was.
