Age Spots Treatment
The effect of the sun on the skin over a long period of time can become more and more noticeable. At UK Aesthetic, we understand that some of these discolourations, typically known as age spots, can be a particularly displeasing. As a result, we offer a number of non-surgical treatments which can help to improve the appearance of such spots.
What are Age Spots?
Known by a number of names – sunspots and liver spots notably – age spots can appear on the face, hands and various other parts of the body which experience heavy exposure to the sun. They occur as a result of overproduction of melanin (our natural skin pigmentation). More common in people over the age of 40, the only way to ensure you avoid developing these age spots is to wear appropriate SPF sun cream when exposed to natural sunlight.
However, once they do develop there are some age spots treatments which you can undergo to improve their appearance.
Ideal Treatments for Age Spots
Age spots treatment can come in a variety of forms. These age spots are medically harmless but they can affect your self-confidence. For that reason, some of the below treatments could help to improve the appearance of these spots over time.
Chemical Peel
The process of a chemical peel, as the name implies, uses acid to burn away the top-most layers of the skin. Your top skin layers are removed and expose new layers below. Several treatments may be needed before a noticeable change to the age spots occurs, but it can be incredibly successful. Some redness may occur following this treatment and it is vital that you wear sun protection after this treatment.
Dermabrasion
The dermabrasion treatment is the basic sanding down of the skin to remove the top layer of dead skin. It is performed using a rapid circular brush. You will likely need to undergo several rounds of treatment before you see an improvement to the age spots.
