The Benefits of Excess Eyelid Skin Removal

Excess eyelid skin removal, a procedure more formally known as a blepharoplasty, is a form of eye surgery that improves the appearance of sagging eyelids. As people age, the skin on the eyelid droops, so some people opt for excess eyelid skin removal in order to reverse the effect of aging, to improve vision and also to reduce irritation.

Here we will look at a few of the benefits of excess eyelid skin removal to help you decide whether this is the right procedure for you!

Improve Vision Issues

When skin begins to sag on the eyelids, it can actually disrupt a person’s vision. As the skin droops over the top portion of the eyelid, your vision can be partially blocked and for some people, the peripheral vision is also reduced. In this instance, excess eyelid skin removal is a functional surgery rather than a cosmetic one.

The excess skin can also cause the version to become blurred, as well as partially blocked. As a result of the excess eyelid skin removal, these issues can be rectified in many cases, which can have quite a significant positive impact on the day to day life of people.

Provide A Youthful Appearance

For many people, the biggest benefit of excess eyelid skin removal is that it helps to create a more youthful appearance. Skin on the eyelid that has drooped can make the eyes look tired and aged, so an incision is made on the crease of the eyelid and any excess fat, muscle or tissue is removed, before closing the incision. This results in the eye area looking much brighter.

Most patients wanting excess eyelid skin removal are over the age of 40, with the majority being over 55. Some people with particular eye shapes also choose to have excess eyelid skin removal, for example people with heavily hooded eyes. Having excess eyelid skin removal can give patients a new sense of confidence thanks to their new youthful appearance.

Reduced Irritation

Excess, baggy skin not only interrupt vision in some cases, but it can also cause irritation. This can come in many different forms, however excess skin in the eye region usually causes itchiness, redness or swelling. Excess skin anywhere on the body can be problematic, yet the sensitive nature of the eye area means that this irritation is much more noticeable for some people.

This can occur because perspiration can get trapped within the fold of the excess skin, potentially causing the irritation as well as even infections in some cases. This can come and go, however for some people, it is quite difficult to live with. One of the most effective methods of easing this is to have excess eyelid skin removal as a permanent solution.

Final Thoughts

Excess eyelid skin can be disruptive in people’s lives, so having it removed is a viable option for many people. If you want to find out more about the procedure, please visit our blepharoplasty page or contact us to book in for a consultation.
