Who Is A Good Candidate For Body Lift Surgery?
Added on 24th March 2020
It’s important that you’re in an ideal position to undergo body lift surgery. In doing this, it can help to prevent fewer complications and make it easier for your surgeon to conduct your surgery. This may beg the question of whether you feel you’re a good candidate for a body lift surgery. This vlog will look into further details about the procedure and how you can be a good candidate for the procedure.
What does body lift surgery involve?
A body lift involves the removal of tissue all around the body circumferentially. This can occur when a patient has gone through significant weight loss and is therefore left with redundant skin. The incisions involved in a body lift can occur in two ways. It can either be made around the lower half of the body, just above the pubic hair or on the upper half of the chest wall known as a ‘reverse body lift’.
What are the common procedures involved with a body lift?
The most common procedure involved in body lift is the lower body lift. This is where the scars are placed just above the pubic hair and excess skin is removed.
Case Study: Ideal candidate for body lift surgery
In the first case study, we can see an example of a patient who went through a lower body lift.
You can see in the gentleman that there is excess skin around the body. This includes on the flanks on the sides. You can also see excess skin forming on the front of the body which would make this patient ideal for a traditional abdominoplasty. However, in doing so this would leave the patient with excess skin on the sides of the body. Therefore, this made the patient an ideal candidate for body lift surgery.
The markings seen in the case study shows clearly where the excess skin occurs and where the tissue would need to be removed. When the skin is stretched, this could stretch to up to 30cm. Post-surgically, we can see the results of the patients’ surgery. The scar has been placed just above the pubic region and goes all around the body to dip into the cleft near the buttocks.
The excess skin found around the flanks and posteriorly around the buttocks has improved significantly. This has removed the long term effects of weight loss.
The above case study outlines the ideal candidate for body lift surgery. During your consultation, you’ll be advised of all the possible options for you. From here, we’ll be able to identify whether you would be a suitable candidate for the procedure or an alternative would be more beneficial. Contact UK Aesthetic today to book a consultation with us.
