What Is Extrusion?

What is Extrusion?
Extrusion is associated with implant surgery. It involves the implant coming through the skin, normally through the incision where it’s been placed. If it’s been placed within the inframammary fold, the implant can compress and drop against the incision.
Can this happen often?
This generally is more likely to occur to patients that have higher risk factors such as previous scars, previous breast surgery but the main reason for why extrusion occurs is due to patients having very large implants.
In the following weeks after your breast augmentation surgery, the dissolvable stitches inside can start to become loose due to the size of the implants.
What are the common signs of extrusion occurring?
There are a number of factors that you can look to to determine whether extrusion has occurred with your breast implants. This can include discolouration or holes occurring around your scar. If you discover that these signs are occurring, it’s important to contact your surgeon immediately to be able to treat the extrusion early.
By treating the extrusion early, it can also allow the implant to be salvageable and preserve their appearance to an extent depending on the condition.
