What Is A Seroma In Bodylifting?
Added on 4th June 2021
A seroma is a build-up of fluid, it’s a bit like if you cut your knee and get some weeping, but inside the body. It can build up and progressively get larger, causing pain and discomfort. Often it’s best left to settle on its own unless there’s a problem with the wound.
Is Drainage An Option?
One can sometimes get a bit of drainage from the wounds as a result of a seroma. We tend not to use drains, as although a seroma can build up and drains may be required to be placed or to go back to theatre, the key to seromas is the prevention of it. We don’t use any drains, we use stitching and glue to prevent a seroma and that’s the key, to prevent it before it happens.
Are Seroma’s Common?
It’s very rare in our practice and we tend to treat everything conservatively if we can. It’s been a number of years before we’ve had to take a patient back to theatre because of a seroma.
