Can I Have A Mummy Makeover If I Am A Smoker?
Added on 1st November 2019
One question that some patients may ask is ‘can I have a mummy makeover if I am a smoker?’ There are several reasons why patients shouldn’t go through surgery if they are a smoker and in this vlog we outline why it is advised to not have a mummy makeover if you are a smoker.
Why can I not have a Mummy Makeover if I am a smoker?
It can be dangerous for a patient to have a mummy makeover if they are a smoker. Due to the nicotine found in cigarettes, it reduces the amount of oxygen that can be delivered to the tissues. There is also the increase of issues in wound healing as it’ll take longer or it may not even heal at all due to the lack of oxygen being received.
General anaesthetic is provided surely after surgery, but if you are a smoker then the healing properties of anaesthetic will be compromised.
When should I stop smoking before surgery?
If you are a heavy smoker and still wish to go ahead with surgery, it’s extremely important that you stop smoking or vaping at least 4 weeks before your surgery to ensure that you’re able to recover from the procedure and the anaesthetic is able to work.
