Abdominoplasty and Fat Transfer Case Study
Added on 30th April 2020
There can be occasions where procedures need to be combined in a surgery in order for them to provide the best results for you. These will be determined based on the information that you provide through your consultation. In this particular vlog, we’re providing a case study based on an abdominoplasty and fat transfer that are combined together.
What is an abdominoplasty?
More details about our abdominoplasty procedures can be found on our abdominoplasty procedure page. To put it simply, an abdominoplasty involves the removal of excess skin and fat. This tends to be a common procedure request by patients who have recently gone through pregnancy – an abdominoplasty can help to repair the split that occurs in the muscles and the abdominal wall after pregnancy.
How is the procedure performed with a fat transfer?
When an abdominoplasty is performed, the excess tissue is often removed and placed in the bin. However, in this case the excess tissue can also be utilised to remove and harvest the fat from the same incisions used from the abdominoplasty.
The fat is taken from the tissue that is normally removed before being processed and filtered to be purified. This fat is then injected into the breasts via small incisions. An abdominoplasty and fat transfer combined procedure is often a preferred procedure if you wish to not have breast implants.
Abdominoplasty and Fat Transfer Case Study Example
In the case study provided in the video provided, we can see in her preoperative images that she has small amounts of excess skin and fat on her body. She was looking to have a subtle improvement in volume with her breasts and opted to have combined abdominoplasty and fat transfer, sharing the fat equally between the breasts.
In the postoperative images, we can see the results of this procedure. We can see there has been an increase in volume around the upper pole area of the breasts where the fat has been injected.
What is the expected recovery time?
The fat transfer is considered the less invasive aspect of the procedure compared with the abdominoplasty. Therefore, the recovery time is relatively minimal for this. If patients choose to have a fat transfer then they should look to do this at the same time as an abdominoplasty as there will be more fat to be utilised shortly after rather than later down the line.
The procedure as a whole takes around 2-2.5 hours. If you wish to find out more details about this combined procedure, please contact us for more information.
