What is Male Breast Reduction Surgery?
When an imbalance in sex hormones occurs in a male, it causes their breasts to become abnormally large than what is considered a ‘normal’ size. When the male body produces more oestrogen compared to the amount of testosterone, it can cause males to produce more breast tissue than normal. This can be rather common in newborn babies, young teenagers and older men making it a popular cosmetic surgery for men.
How Is Gynaecomastia Surgery Performed?
There are two ways in which gynaecomastia surgery can be performed to remove the excess tissue around the male breast area.
Liposuction
This is a typical procedure that’s used to generally extract excessive muscle and fat tissue. Fat removal from the chest can be conducted from the sides of your chest, near the areola or in your armpit. During your consultation, the best liposuction option will be discussed, based on the amount of tissue that needs to be removed for the patient’s desired results.
Men’s Chest Reduction
This tends to be a popular option if there is excess breast gland tissue. This will require a combination of treatments such as liposuction, gland removal, excess skin removal and realignment. This is for cases where there is more excess fat in the chest.

Gynaecomastia Surgery Aftercare
Heavy lifting and strenuous activity should be avoided for about six weeks after surgery. Light exercises can be performed around two weeks after surgery before going back to your normal routine, once four weeks have passed.
Scarring will also occur after the surgery, and it will fade over time, but this will take several months until you get the final results. To improve scar healing, you can massage the area that’s been operated on once it has healed.
