What is a breast lift?
A breast lift essentially involves the lifting of the breasts higher up the chest wall. There are various aspects of the breast that can be lifted and these include the nipple areola complex, the skin and the inframammary fold.
This vlog aims to go into more detail about what is a breast lift as it tends to be a common question for patients and whether it’s something they’d like to have.
How can each of the elements be lifted?
Nipple Areola Complex
Out of the three areas that can be lifted on the breast, the nipple is probably considered the easiest to lift. This simply involves the nipple being lifted to the level of the fold to provide a heightened look to the breast.
The Skin
In order to lift the breast, the skin is tightened in such a way that the new breast Is lifted higher up the chest wall.
Inframammary Fold
What is a breast lift via the inframammary fold – The inframammary fold involves plicating or attaching the breast higher up the wall in order to provide a heightened look to the breast.
It’s important to consider that over time, these techniques will change in appearance. During your consultation, we can also run through the pros and cons of each technique to understand which option would be best for you.
Are there different techniques that can be combined with it?
There are some patients who opt to increase the volume in the upper pole with either implants or fat. This is because a mastopexy over time will not enhance the upper pole for the long term. Again, we can easily discuss this during a consultation to help decide which option is what’s best for you.
