What Different Types Of Liposuction Are There?
Added on 5th March 2021
Traditionally liposuction has been the removal of fat. It is a suction tubing and it simply removes the fat directly. There are some non-surgical devices where fat can be frozen or burnt within the body, leaving the body to remove these products.
How is the Surgery Performed?
Liposuction is through a very small incision and a cannula is placed into the area where the fat is being removed. An energy source is often applied to the cannula and this can be in the form of ultrasound, power, laser or through water assisted liposuction.
What Is Water Assisted Liposuction?
Water assisted liposuction involves high energy jets pumping water through the edge of the cannula and at the same time the fat is sucked back. With water assisted liposuction the tissues are primed with fluid and we know that the recovery, bruising and swelling afterwards will be less with the addition of fluid.
We tend to favour water assisted liposuction in our practice and patients can be offered other types of liposuction when they attend a consultation.
