What Causes The Ageing Process And The Impacts Of Ageing
Added on 14th April 2020
What are the common causes of ageing?
Ageing can occur over time and a large reason for this is exposure to the sun and gravity. The biggest impacts of ageing occur on the skin. As a result, this causes the skin to develop fine lines and wrinkles.
The first image provided in the video above outlines the main areas where lines can develop on the face. It also shows the impacts of ageing on the skin. This can include developing eyelid bags, peri-oral wrinkles and lost neck definition, plus more.
Does ageing damage other skin layers?
Yes, as well as on the surface of the skin ageing can also in the deeper layers of the skin. In particular, it can impact the subcutaneous and the muscular-aponeurotic layers of the skin. Over time, the impacts of ageing can be on the bones and the muscular attachment from the bones.
The foundations of the face are made up of the ligaments, and these do remain relatively stable and fixed during the ageing process. This means the internal structures of the face are held by the ligaments and only on the points of the ligaments where the ageing process can be seen.
Impacts of ageing on the neck
Bone resorption can occur over time, impacting the shape and size of the skull. This can have a large impact on the neck in particular. As outlined further along in the video, we can see its impacts from the image provided:
- The hyoid bone drops
- Particular angles of the neck become blunted
- The jowl formation increases
- Mid-face decent occurs
How can facial rejuvenation procedures help?
A common procedure that patients turn to resolve issues of ageing is through facial rejuvenation. It helps to reposition the skin, but more importantly, reposition the SMAS layer. This is a layer of skin that sits on top of the muscle. A key aspect of facial rejuvenation is not damaging the muscles and the facial nerves.
Understanding the variations of the facial nerves are important as any damage caused to these can be extremely detrimental to you. Here at UK aesthetic, we have some of the most skilled plastic surgeons in the country. Our main aim is to ensure your safety and that you choose the right procedure for you.
