Is A Rhinoplasty Painful?
Added on 8th September 2020
There are several aspects that can determine how painful a rhinoplasty can be. A rhinoplasty procedure can cover several different areas of the nose and depending on the area that’s operated on can inflict more pain than other areas.
What happens during a rhinoplasty?
Whilst there are many areas that can be operated on in a rhinoplasty procedure, generally there are common occurrences that occur during the procedure. There tends to be a reduction in the nasal bones, the septum may need to be repositioned and cartilages around the tip of the nose would need to be altered in order to provide the results that you’re looking for.
Is a rhinoplasty painful?
Typically, a rhinoplasty wouldn’t be painful but it is normal after the operation you may feel some signs of discomfort. Considering how raw the surgery is, you should also expect to feel some swelling around the area that’s been operated on as well as bruising occurring around the perioral or eye region of the face.
Would it take long to recover?
Patients tend to recover from rhinoplasty relatively quickly and you should still expect to be able to drink and eat shortly after the surgery. To help support your rhinoplasty recovery, we will provide a plaster of paris over your nose which you should keep on for about a week.
You may also experience a slight unusual sensation around your nose and upper part of your face in the early stages of your recovery. This will also mean that your nose will feel blocked and your breathing may be altered slightly as it continues to recover from the surgery.
After about a week, you’d expect to come to the surgery to have your plaster of paris removed as you advance through your recovery. By this time, you should be able to breathe and your nose should be able to function as normal but you may still feel a little blocked up for about 6 weeks after the plaster is removed.
