Would I Need a Breast Reduction With Lift Together or Separately?
Added on 18th October 2019
What are the differences of breast reduction with lift and without?
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is simply used to lift the breast and tightening the skin around the breasts. Whereas a breast reduction involves the removal of tissue to make the breasts appear smaller. Each of the surgical procedures have their different purposes and can be different in what results they achieve when conducted separately.
However, there will be occasions where a patient will have a breast reduction with lift in combination depending on the breast size and the areola position. Examinations that take place during your initial consultation will help to determine whether or not both parts of the surgery will be required.
Case Study 1
In the first case study, we can see an example of how a mastopexy used in combination with a breast reduction to provide a more aesthetically pleasing result for the patient. The patient’s postoperative images show that the nipple has been lifted and the breast has been reshaped. There has only been minimal breast reduction in the patient with the outer parts of breast tissue being removed.
Case Study 2
For the second case study, we can see how the breast reduction with lift has been used in combination with each other. We can see that the breasts have been significantly reduced in size and provided them with a younger looking result after previously looking rather ‘saggy’.
What would determine whether a breast reduction with lift would be required?
Essentially, the volume to start with, the amount of excess skin and the position of the areola will determine the final results of the surgery. For most patients, they’d believe they’d need one surgery or the other but in reality, they would in fact need both to gain the results they’d require.
As always, it’s important to discuss the options available to you in a consultation to understand the outcome of each of the procedures.
