Can I Improve The Scars After Arm Lift Surgery?
Added on 19th October 2020
How will scars appear after an arm lift?
The quality of the scars after arm lift surgery can be variable for each patient. For example, in caucasian patients the scars tend to start pink that starts to go purple-ish, before turning red and then eventually fading over time. However, it can take between 12-18 months before the scars begin to fade and they can appear raised before this stage.
How can I improve the scars after arm lift surgery?
There are several ways that you can help to improve the scars after arm lift surgery. One example is massaging the scars after your treatment which tends to be regularly encouraged by surgeons for the aftercare period.
Occasionally, you may also be encouraged to do laser scar treatment but this will only occur with very rare scars that require more attention than others. Silicone is another method to help improve your scars, such as silicone tape or silicon gel, which can often be good to soften the scars and improve their appearance.
However, massage is the most encouraged method to improve your scars after arm lift surgery.
What massage is available to me?
There are a numbers of ways you can massage the scars. Here at UK Aesthetic, we can offer deep lymphatic massage which can help the scars and you should look to keep massaging and managing the scar for around 12-18 months.
It’s rare to consider scar revision following arm lift surgery and again, it would be around 12-18 months after surgery where this may be needed as an option.
