Are There Different Silicone Shells To Breast Implants?
Added on 16th August 2019
Breast implants were traditionally manufactured by Cronin and Gerow in 1963 were produced with a silicon shell. Over the years we have seen many developments with the silicon shell and the two different varieties can be broken down into the smooth variety, a smooth shell there’s no texturing.
There’s also the textured shell, and the reason that texturing was developed was to try and reduce the capsular contracture rates. Over the last 10 to 20 years we’ve seen a change in how these texturing has been produced by different companies, ranging from micro and nano texturing to macro texturing.
