How Will Abdominal Liposuction Scars Change After Abdominoplasty Surgery?
Added on 24th April 2020
Abdominoplasty surgery is a common form of surgery for many patients which often involves liposuction. Abdominal liposuction scars should be expected and these do change over time. In this vlog, we discuss the changes that you should expect in the scars and how they may look over a period of time.
What is Abdominoplasty Surgery?
Abdominoplasty surgery involves the removal of excess skin in the abdominal area. You may choose to go through this procedure if you’ve had excess skin grow over time. This can normally occur after pregnancy or after dramatic weight loss. In some cases, liposuction may be required depending on the amount of skin that’s required to be removed.
Changes to Abdominal Liposuction Scars – Case Study 1
You can see in the first image that the patient has excess skin around the lower abdomen area, but also in the upper abdomen that runs around the flanks of the waist. The patient chose to have a traditional abdominoplasty procedure combined with liposuction.
We can see in the next image the results after a week. The abdominoplasty liposuction scars are visible just above the pubic region and swelling with bruising has also occurred, which is expected. This tends to be as a result of the procedure from liposuction.
Results After 6 Weeks
In the next image, you can see her results after 6 weeks. The abdominal liposuction scars have changed over this period, appearing more red and some lumpiness is still visible. There also still appears to be a shelf-like effect of the skin around the waist.
Results After 6 Months
After 6 months you can see her results are far more appealing. The abdominal liposuction scars are far more settled and the swelling is less noticeable. The colour of the scars has now faded to a pink colour but are still slightly visible.
The scars are more settled but you should still expect to see a sensory loss around the middle part of the abdomen.
Abdominoplasty Recovery
The scars should continue to improve over a 6-12 month period and the case study provided is considered a standard recovery for the procedure. You should expect to receive similar results to the ones outlined. It is worth noting, however, individual cases can be different and the asymmetry results can be unpredictable.
