Is There A Disruption Following An Arm Lift?

Often following an arm lift the sensory branches to a number of nerves are affected and it depends a little on the extent of the scar. Often people have lost the sensation around the scar itself, although there can be branches that are damaged that lead to a decrease in sensation, not just of the arm but of the forearm. It’s extremely rare for a motor nerve or a nerve that pars any of the muscles of the arm to be affected.

When Will The Sensation Return?

The majority of sensation will come back but it can take 12 to 18 months. As a good rule of thumb usually the nerves recover at a rate of 1cm a month and that gives patients an idea of how long the recovery process for the nerves may be. 

Often patients will find in the initial phase that coarse touch is affected and fine touch. That course touch will come back, and it’s the fine touch and the temperature regulation that takes a little bit longer.
