Where Are Lower Body Lift Scars Placed During Surgery?

Added on 4th February 2020

This vlog discusses the topic of lower body lift scars and where incisions tend to be made during the surgery. Surgeons will look to place scars in places that are hard to detect and naturally covered for patients. Patients can be conscious of how the scars will look after surgery, so it’s an important matter that you should be aware of.

What is a lower body lift surgery?

A lower body lift involves the removal of tissue all around the body in the waist region. This tends to be a common choice of procedure for patients who have excess weight around the stomach and hip region of their body.

Case Study 1: Scars after an abdominoplasty

The video above provides before and after photos of different techniques used for lower body lift surgery. This helps to provide you with an indication of where the incisions have been made and how the scars will look after a period of time.

The first case study shows a lady who has had a classic abdominoplasty procedure. As you’ll see, the scars run just above the pubic area all the way to the hip bones.

Case Study 2: Scars after a fleur de lis abdominoplasty

Another technique that can be used is the fleur de lis abdominoplasty. As you can see in the images shown in the video, this particular procedure involves an incision being made horizontally and vertically across the abdomen region.

The vertical line is again made just towards the edge of the hips bones but further around the body.

How do lower body lift scars compare to these techniques?

With a lower body lift surgery, the lower scars that are shown in the previous two techniques extends further around the body and flanks. In doing so, this helps to address more excess skin and helps to remove more skin. It can also have a larger effect on the thighs and buttocks compared to the other two techniques.

Lower Body Lift Case Study: Scars after 6 weeks and 6 months

The following case study shown in the video above shows an example of a patient’s results after 6 weeks and then 6 months. As you can see with the lower body lift scars, we can see clearly the position of the scars in each of the pictures and how they’ve matured over time.

Can the position of the scars vary?

There can be circumstances where the position of the scar can change depending on the patients needs. In some cases, patients will want to reduce the amount of excess skin around their flanks. Therefore, the lower body lift scars will need to be positioned higher on the body to achieve this (as shown in the next case study in the video).

If patients wish to improve the appearance of their buttocks and the ‘saddle bags’ around the waist area, they’ll require the scar to be positioned lower on the body. Again, these are visible in the images shown in the video.

As always, it’s important to run through the pros and cons of the surgery during your consultation. Here, we can also discuss what areas of the body you wish skin to be removed from and the expectations you have of the surgery.
