6 Tips For Recovery After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Preparing for what to expect after breast augmentation surgery can be helped dearly by understanding the surgery itself. Recovery experiences can vary between individual patients but knowing basic tips for recovery can be useful in ensuring that it’s smooth.

The most important thing is to let your surgeon or medical team if you have any questions that need answering or concerns about the surgery. You’ll be provided with guidance throughout your procedure.

1. Take it easy after breast augmentation surgery

Doctors will strongly advise that shortly after having your surgery, you should take plenty of time to rest and heal. The more you can rest within the first 2 weeks of your surgery, the quicker you tend to recover from your surgery.

This means you should avoid strenuous activity such as heavy lifting and exercise, particular soon after your surgery. You need to be gradual with your exercise around 2 weeks after when you begin to increase your mobility. If at any point you still feel pain, you should stop and contact your surgeon.

2.  Don’t ignore the signs of pain or nausea

There can be occasions when pain and nausea occur after breast augmentation surgery, but if you manage both well this can ensure a smoother recovery. Discuss this problem with your doctor so you’re best aware about how to manage this. It’s also worth informing your medical team and surgeon about any nausea and pain that you experience as extreme cases may need medical assistance.

3. Follow the guidelines provided for wound aftercare

If you have incisions created for your surgery, dressings will need to be provided to care for the incisions during the recovery. All dressings should remain intact for the first week or so, until you assess you back at the clinic after a week. From this, we’ll then provide further guidance about how to care for your wounds and be able to achieve the best scar results.

4. Wear support bras during your recovery

Normal bras won’t provide you with the support that you need shortly after breast augmentation surgery. This is why you require specific support bras to help with your recovery as you’ll need this in order to achieve the results that you need.

After your surgery, our surgeons will provide you with special medical garments that will enhance your recovery time, reduce the swelling and generally increase your comfort during the recovery process. Underwire bras should be avoided for at least 12 weeks. Be sure to listen to your surgeon about the best way to support your breasts after breast augmentation surgery.

5. Eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of fluids

What you eat and drink can be crucial to your recovery, providing you with crucial nutrients and minerals that can aid your recovery. Having a balanced diet can be crucial to your recovery and speeding up the process.

If you’re unsure about what to specifically eat or drink whilst you’re recovering, feel free to discuss with your surgeon who will be happy to provide guidance on your diet and what would be best for you.

Final thoughts

It’s important that both parties are collaborative in order to ensure that your recovery after breast augmentation surgery is successful as a patient. With timely reporting of symptoms and concerns that you have and following the exact advice provided by your surgeon – such as wearing the correct garments, eating the right foods and caring for your incisions, you can ensure that the recovery process is as smooth as possible.
